What Is a Kiosk? Applications and Design Process
What does a kiosk do?
A kiosk is a standalone point that gives users access to specific information or a service. Touchscreen models may support information, wayfinding, queue management, ticketing or payments. The available functions depend on the hardware and software integrated into the unit.
Where are kiosks used?
Shopping centres, supermarkets, hotels, banks and event venues are among the locations where kiosks can be considered. User profiles, transaction times and circulation patterns differ between settings. Screen visibility, user access and positioning should therefore be planned together.
The enclosure and system should be coordinated
Screen dimensions, cable routing, service access, ventilation, mounting and materials all influence kiosk design. A kiosk designed for indoor use should not automatically be treated as suitable for outdoors. Protection requirements for outdoor installations need to be defined separately.
WCM Factory Metal supports design and manufacturing for kiosks and bespoke metal enclosures. Device dimensions, intended use, software and hardware responsibilities, and the installation area should be clarified at the quotation stage.
