Flower Clocks: Where Landscape Meets Time
What is a flower clock?
A flower clock is an outdoor installation whose dial is formed through landscape planting and paired with a working clock mechanism. Plants, numerals or hour markers, and moving hands form a single composition.
Two international examples
The flower clock in Geneva's Jardin Anglais was created in 1955. At Niagara Parks, the planted design is changed twice each year. These examples show that a flower clock is both a timekeeping installation and a landscape feature requiring regular care.
Key design decisions
Viewing angles, slope, dial diameter and plant selection establish the design brief. Irrigation, mechanical and electrical components, drainage, maintenance access and seasonal changes need to be planned together. Planting should preserve clear visibility of the time.
Is Time's bespoke clock design approach can be developed within a shared brief with architectural and landscape teams. Site dimensions and an existing landscape plan provide useful starting points for technical evaluation.
